Hilarie and I are so excited to serve Christ alongside the great people of FBC Lott. As we get to know all of you, here’s just a little bit of information about me.
I was born in Nacogdoches, grew up in Mt. Enterprise, and earned my BA in Religion from East Texas Baptist University in Marshall. Before accepting the call to pastor FBC Lott, I served as the part-time youth minister in my home church, FBC Mt. Enterprise, and from there, served as the Student Minister at Central Baptist Church in Jacksonville. I learned a great deal about ministry in both places and God further shaped my calling to the point where I knew I was called to pastor. Central Baptist Church was kind enough to allow me to pursue my M.Div while serving there and I graduated in May 2012 from George W. Truett Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity in Theology.
I married Hilarie, my high school sweetheart, in December 2005 and in September 2011, we celebrated the birth of our first kiddo, Everett. He goes by Rett though because you can’t be in my wife’s family without a nickname...you’ll have to ask me in person what my nickname is and Hilarie’s is even better!
Hilarie and I love to watch movies but we disagree on what is the best movie of all time. While it probably is no surprise that I’m into action movies, some of my favorite movies are all of the James Bond movies, Star Wars, and Braveheart, to name just a few. I’m also a big reader of Bill Hybels (the pastor of Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, IL), I like Tom Clancy novels, and, of course, commentaries and studies on the Bible take up a lot of space on my bookshelf. Beaver’s Bend, OK is our vacation mainstay and snowskiing in Colorado ranks way up there too! As far as hobbies, I love to restore old things, whether it’s old furniture or the like, I’m an avid student of World War Two, I like being in the woods or on the lake, and I’m into sports. I also like to just build stuff.
And you can’t be a minister without a favorite dessert, just in case some saint in the church might want to bless you! Mine is a chocolate meringue pie!
Seriously though, I’m grateful for the calling God has placed on my life, to serve and shepherd the people of Lott through First Baptist Church. I cannot adequately express how I feel when I see God change the lives of His people, turning us back from where we were headed and restoring us to relationship with Him! Borrowing a page from Bill Hybels, I wholeheartedly believe that the local church in Jesus Christ is the hope of this world!
I’m honored to serve as pastor of such a loving community of faith here at FBC Lott.
